Leah Foundation’s Pink October 2024: Join the Fight Against Breast Cancer

At Leah Foundation, we are driven by one mission: to save lives through awareness, education, and action. Our Pink October 2024 campaign aims to build on the successes of last year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, when we reached over 1,000 people, screened more than 400 women, and provided subsidized mammograms and breast scans to 120 women. This year, we are expanding our efforts to screen 600 women, offer subsidized mammograms and breast scans to 200 women, and engage more communities in Kwara State and beyond.

Breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers affecting women worldwide, and early detection can make the difference between life and death. Through Pink October 2024, the Leah Foundation is committed to bridging the gap between awareness and action, ensuring that no woman is left behind due to financial or geographic barriers.

Key Initiatives for Pink October 2024

1. Clinic on Wheels: Taking Healthcare to the Heart of Communities

Women in rural areas often face significant challenges in accessing basic healthcare services. Through our Clinic on Wheels initiative, we bring free breast cancer screenings, medical consultations, and health education directly to women in underserved communities. This year, the mobile clinic will visit additional remote areas to provide free screenings for breast and cervical cancer, ensuring that women who otherwise would not have access to these life-saving services are reached.

How You Can Help
For just NGN 3,000, you can cover the cost of a screening for one woman. By donating today, you will help us extend our reach and save more lives. Donate Now

2. Social Media Awareness Campaign: Going Digital

In 2023, our social media efforts created waves across Kwara State, but this year, we’re going bigger. Leah Foundation’s Pink October 2024 will feature targeted social media campaigns, live Q&A sessions, and survivor stories that will be shared globally through platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. Through engaging content and interactive events, we will educate more women and men on the importance of early detection, risk factors, and available treatments for breast cancer.

3. Free Breast and Cervical Cancer Screenings: Reaching 600 Women

The heart of our Pink October campaign is the free screenings we offer throughout the month. In 2023, we screened over 400 women, but this year, our goal is to reach 600 women. Women who attend our screening days will receive free breast and cervical cancer screenings, along with consultations on the best practices for maintaining breast health. With early detection being key to survival, we’re determined to provide these services to as many women as possible.

4. Pink October Walk: Raising Awareness, Building Hope

On October 18th, 2024, the Leah Foundation will host its annual Pink October Walk in Ilorin. The 5.3 km walk will once again take participants through key areas of the city, from Leah Medical Centre in GRA to Tanke, raising awareness about breast cancer risks, early detection, and treatment options. Last year, hundreds of volunteers, survivors, and local leaders participated, and we aim for even greater involvement this year.

The Pink October Walk is not just about raising awareness but also about supporting those who are fighting or have survived breast cancer. Participants will have opportunities to engage with healthcare professionals, survivors, and breast cancer advocates who will share valuable insights about prevention and treatment.

5. Secondary School Quiz: Educating the Next Generation

Education is a powerful tool in the fight against breast cancer. Our Secondary School Quiz will continue this year, educating young girls and boys about the importance of breast and cervical cancer prevention, early detection, and healthy lifestyle choices. This initiative, which reached hundreds of students last year, will expand to more schools in 2024, ensuring that more young people are informed about their health.

6. FLAC Initiative: Extending Our Reach

In collaboration with First Ladies Against Cancer (FLAC), Leah Foundation will continue its advocacy for better cancer care across Nigeria. Last year, we donated NGN 10 million to the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan to support cancer patients, and we plan to expand these efforts in 2024 with more hospital visits, donations, and awareness programs. Together, we are improving the quality of cancer care for patients in need.

Why Your Support Matters

Breast cancer continues to affect millions of women worldwide, but with early detection, it is highly treatable. However, access to screening and healthcare remains a challenge for many women in Nigeria, particularly in rural areas. Leah Foundation’s Pink October 2024 is not just about raising awareness but also about providing life-saving medical services and education to those who need it most.

By supporting us, you’re not just making a donation—you’re saving lives. Whether through a donation, participating in our events, or sharing our message online, your contribution makes a difference. Let’s work together to ensure that no woman faces breast cancer alone.
